Aim: Research on the relationship between acupuncture points and anatomy.
Methods: In 1951, when I was engaged in teaching anatomy, I felt deeply that there was a close relationship between acupuncture points and anatomy. Thereafter, a systematic observation on stimulating somatic nerve was performed and a comparative study of acupuncture points and nerves was carried out: (1) Infraorbital nerve corresponds to the Stomach Meridian¡ªSibai(ST2) acupuncture point. When accurately acupunctured, there was a distinct sensation of twitching and numbness in the eyes, nasal cavity, upper teeth and upper lip. This acupuncture point is effective in the treatment of conjunctivitis, paranasosinusitis, trigeminal neuralgia, facial nerve paralysis, toothache, etc. (2) The cervicobrachial plexus corresponds to the Large Intestine Meridian ¡ªTianding(LI17) acupuncture point. When correctly acupunctured, the sensation of numbness can immediately spread to the palm. Sometimes even muscular spasm can be seen at certain points along the upper limb. This acupuncture points is effective in the treatment of pharyngitis, tonsillitis, intercostal neuralgia, pleurisy, mastitis, median, ulnar and radial neuroparalysis or neuralgia, brachial plexus injury, rheumatism along the upper limb and apoplexy, etc.
Results: According to my experimental observation, most acupuncture points, particularly important points, closely correlate with nerves.
Conclusion: In view of the observational findings, the nervous system is an important constituent of Meridians and Collaterals. Studying Meridians and Collaterals should be closely related with modern medicine.

In the late fifties a Chinese report about the application of acupuncture in anaesthesia during caesarian sections gave the most important impulse for medical interests on acupuncture in the western world. The following popularity boom of acupuncture opened new applications in anaesthesia and surgery when all over the world physicians studied the theory and practical techniques of acupuncture.
In the last 20 years the importance of various applications of acupuncture in anaesthesia and during surgery decreased gradually due to the fast development and progress in surgical technology and techniques as well as in pharmacology and allied medical disciplines.
Today the most important fields where acupuncture is still widely used for the treatment of pain in different settings. Nevertheless it is to a certain extent still considered as a method of treatment of many ailments, especially when conventional methods of orthodox medicine have failed to provide alleviation or cure.
According to my experience using acupuncture in multiple settings in recent years significant curative support can be provided when expertly applied on patients in following fields of ailment:
1. In the pre- and postoperative periods of surgical procedures to provide alleviation of pain and other body complaints like muscle stiffness frequently appearing in these settings.
2. During recovery from disorders ensuing from several sources like circulation failure and diseases of the blood vessels, as well as rheumatic, neurologic and gynecologic diseases. A typical situation for successful application of acupuncture is during recovery from paralysis after stroke.
3. In palliative settings on patients suffering from incurable diseases like severe cancer, needing relief from the enormous pressure of extreme pain and psychological distress.
In order to promote the development of acupuncture and sustain its importance in modern medicine, the author believes that the aforementioned fields should be strongly considered for further scientific studies and publications.

CHAKRA ACUPUNCTURE

Chakra acupuncture extends the traditional application of acupuncture by including the Indian chakra system into the diagnosis and treatment of energy imbalances. When practicing Chakra acupuncture, points are selected according to traditonal Chinese principles together with additional chakra points in the areas of the seven major chakras. Chakras being energy centers in which vital energy vital energy of different density, quality and intensity can flow. Chakras are at the same time levels of consciousness. Besides needling of the chakra points, the focusing of the conscious awareness, i.e. the attention of the patient towards the respective chakra region, is important for the efficacy of the treatment. After all acupuncture points have been needled with the usual technique, the patient is asked to direct hes awareness towards the relevant chakra. For example when the patient with the assistance of the needles focuses his awareness into the heart chakra , compassion, love and harmony spontaneously arise and healing abilities are enhanced. When practicing chakra acupuncture, the first step is the opening of the crown chakra and then the flow and opening of the heart. The second step is to focus the awareness to the chakras where the imbalance and stagnation causing the disease are located and to create here an opening and flow.
Needling of chakra points together with the focusing of the awareness of the patient but also of the therapist is essential for the opening and flow on the chakra level. It is important, that with this method each patient learns to identify for himself the location and shape of their own chakras and the flow on this level. By doing this repeatedly they develop a clear perception of their energy field with the chakras as major energy centers. Thus by raising the awareness of the patient, the flow of life force through the chakras, organs and channels is promoted and a strong vitalization of the entire energy field takes place.
