THE TREATMENT OF HICCOUGH RIGHT AFTER OPEN HEART SURGERY: 7 CASES

Aim: Hiccough is a result of spasm of diaphram after quick and over eating, or hot spicy meal or after heart and abdominal operations.
Methods: Acupuncture therapy was applied on 7 patients right after an open heart surgery at Florance Nightingale Hospital in Istanbul. Hiccough has been carried out as a side effect of an open heart surgery. All kinds of western medicine treatments have been applied for all 7 patients for 3 to 4 days. But western treatment could not stop hiccough. Then acupuncture was applied on PC6 (Neiguan), GV20 (Baihui), LR3 (Taichong), ST36(Zusanli), GV24(Renzhong) for 20 minutes. Acupuncture was continued for 2 or 5 days. Every day one session was applied.
Results: All patients were cured between 2 and 5 days.
Conclusion: Even very high dosage of largactil was injected to the patients, they were still complaining hiccough constantly. After acupuncture treatments, hiccough has started to reduce gradually. Most of them stopped after 3 days. Acupuncture had no side effect and was very safe and effective.

THE EFFECT OF ACUPUNCTURE THERAPY ON 32 CASES OF HYSTEROMYOMA

Aim: Hysteromyoma is one of the common gynaecological diseases for women between the ages of 25 and 55. This article reports 32 cases of patients, who have Hysteromyoma, treated with acupuncture from 1991 to 1995. Their ages range from 25 to 45.
Methods: All 32 patients were examined and used abdominal ultrasonography, diagnosed in the Gynaecological Service of the Medical Faculty. The treatment points were selected according to T.C.M. general rules of treatment; and acupuncture manipulations with reinforcing and reducing technique were applied to these points. Also, Wang Bu Liu Xing seeds were applied to selected ear points. This treatment consists of two 12-session cycles. The first cycle is once a day and the second one is three times a week. There is a 10-day pause between the two cycles. Totally 20 sessions of Wang Bu Liu Xing seeds were applied to the selected ear points with the period of three times a week.
Results: Applications of the techniques that were explained in the previous paragraph result in regulations in Qi, elimination of stagnation and activated blood for all the patients. At the end of two cycles acupuncture therapy and Wang Bu Liu Xing seeds to ear points, symptoms were disappeared and the patients got better; and so far, none of them presented relapses.
Conclusion: Considering the very successful results, it can be stated that the application of acupuncture and Wang Bu Liu Xing seeds to the ear points at the same time is the most effective treatment for the patients of Hysteromyoma.
