ACU-MOXI TREATMENT FOR
NEUROSIS ACCOMPANIED WITH CHINESE HERBS
Dan JIANG

The neurosis, of called nervous diseases here, are
those which are damaged central nerve of peripheral branches. It
should be Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Motor Nuerol Syndrome (MNS),
the trauma or inflammation in nervous and other organic diseases.
It also should be Myalgia Encephalomyelitis (ME), or called Post
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (PCFS), and other non organic diseases,
or those which have not been recognized as an organic diseases temporarily.
These diseases are usually pain (or aching, fuzzy and so on), paralysis,
rigidity and vibration. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), they
mostly belong to BI, WEI and FENG syndromes. To these pathological
processes, the modern conventional medicine has no effective methods
to deal with, but the correct acupuncture is a hopeful treatment.
On the basic of practicing in UK for a long term, the author has
summarized a comprehensive method to treat those difficult and complicated
cases and have got some positive results.
For the nervous diseases, the acupuncture is a positive treatment.
If necessary it has to add extraordinary treatments at the same
time. The common therapies are:
(1) Jia Ji needling: The needles inserting the points from the cervical
vertebrae to sacral vertebrae. MS, MNS, the vertebrae injury, rheumatoid
spondylitis, senile arthralgia and so on.
(2) Scalp acupuncture: A therapeutic method by needling specific
areas of the scalp. The serious MS, Parkinson's disease and other
illnesses with limbs swaying or twitching, but to them the treatment
of body needling can not be suitable.
(3) Auricular acupuncture: This method only has limited effect,
so it has to accompany the body needling and other needling in order
to strengthen the treatment. In general the auricular acupuncture
is better to the nervous, depression, insomnia and so on.
(4) Moxibustion: The therapy of moxibustion can clear and activate
the meridians and collaterals so to removing blood stasis; and can
strengthen the primordial qi. It is a necessary method to complement
the common body needling.
(5) Electro-acupuncture: A therapeutic which combines needling and
electrical stimulation, the effect of acupuncture is deeper, stronger
and longer. It is suitable to those difficult and complicated cases,
to which the common acupuncture cannot be effective, or although
it is effective but it only lasts a short term.
(6) Chinese Herb Medicine: If without any financial problem, all
the patients should better take some Chinese herb medicine. The
will bring positive result definitely.
The acupuncture can bring the activity of human body into play at
most. It can adjust the immune mechanism, strengthen the muscle,
improve the local blood circulation. It can contribute great deal
to the nerve metabolism and rebuilding definitely. It gives a good
treatment to the nervous disease which used to be a higher fatality
rate and disable rate.

THE TREATMENT OF "POLYCYSTIC
OVARY SYNDROME"
BY A COMBINATION OF CHINESE HERBAL MEDICINE AND ACUPUNCTURE
Xiao Hui GU, Ji G. ZHANG
Huiren Tang, 189A Weedon House, Du Cane Road, London W12 0UD, U.K.
Aim: Women with polycystic ovaries syndrome (PCOS)
in its full-blown state manifest symptoms of anovulation, hyperandrogenemia,
and obesity. Etiology of this syndrome remain unclear. The treatment
is difficult and often unsatisfactory. To modulate endocrinium and
restore normal function of the ovary in patients with PCOS, there
patients have been treated in our clinic by a combination of Chinese
herbal medicine and acupuncture.
Patients: The medium age of the patients treated is 30 years old
(27 to 35 years old). All the patients were four to six months of
amenorrhea before diagnosed and previously treated in hospital but
not satisfied.
Treatments: For these patients the needling points were: Yinjiao
(CV7), Sanyinjiao (SP6), Zhongji (CV3), Diji (SP8), Xuehai (SP10),
Hegu (LI4), and Taichong (LR3). The patients were treated by acupuncture
twice a week. Herbal medicines principally prescribed were: 12 g
of Poria, 10 g of Rhizoma atractylodis macrophalae, 9 g of Pericarpium
citri reticulatae, 10 g of Radix angelicae sinensis, 12 g of Semen
litchis, 12 g of Thallus laminariae, 10 g of Bulbus fritillariae
thunbergii, 12 g of Spica prunellae, 12 g of Squama manitis, 10
g of Rhizome pleionis, and 9 g of Fructus aurantii.
Results: Two out of the three patients were fully recovered. The
period came regularly for at least six months after stopping the
therapy. The average duration of the treatment was about seven months.
The remaining one has been treated for four months and the ovary
is functionally better. Ovulation regularly occurs but still very
much relies upon the regiments used for treatment.
Conclusion: Acupuncture with herbal medicine can restore normal
function of ovary and regulate endocrine system for patients with
PCOS.

Diagnosis Methods in Acupuncture
FINDINGS OF DIAGNOSIS BY
MERIDIANS AND COLLATERALS: CONSIDERABLE RATE OF STRONG POSITIVE
REACTION ON QINLING
Bisong GUO

This paper touches upon some important findings
of diagnosis by meridians and collaterals, that is, the severe derangement
of the balance of Yin and Yang in modern western way of life. This
has an obvious reflection on a fairly high rate of strong positive
reaction on Qingling point - 49.2% of 2,000 cases. This shows that
different cultural backgrounds and lifestyles have strong impact
on the balance of Yin and Yang. Therefore it is interesting to note
that acupoints considered uncommon in oriental culture may be regarded
as very important in western culture. It is also important that
the fundamental principles of Chinese medicine should be implemented
in light of different ways of life.
In checking the functioning of meridian circles, I first used hands
to supply acupressure along 14 major meridians. Each point was pressed
to check the positive reaction. Each point needed to be given the
same pressure. In the meantime, the tongue was checked constantly
to see the reaction of internal organs. I also managed to talk to
my patients about their lifestyle before and after the healing process,
and to check whether the patient had had previous medical treatments
or taken any drugs before. The total Qingling point positive reaction
was 49.2%.
I come to the conclusion that lack of knowledge of Yin Yang and
of different lifestyle leads to severe imbalance of Yin and Yang
in the body. The Qingling point, which looks after the cooling of
the heart meridians, has a strong reaction. This indicates that
when there is insufficient Yang Qi, the essence of Yin cannot be
protected. The lack of kidney Qi fails to nourish the heart fluid.
The excess of Yang Qi consumes the essence of Yin. The insufficient
growth of Yin fluid of the heart and the excess waste of Yin fluid
cause deficiency of Yin Qi and excessive Yang. This displays a severe
imbalance of the kidney Qi and the heart fluid, Yin and Yang, the
essence of the human body. It is, therefore, essential for doctors
to realize the importance of providing correct guidance for patients
in their daily life with a view to achieving the physiological balance
of Yin and Yang in the body.

A COMBINED APPLICATION
OF THE METHOD OF EASING THE MIND
WHILE SUBSTANTIATING THE ABDOMEN (SINKING THE RESPIRED AIR
TO DANTIAN¡ªELIXIR FIELD)AND ACUPUNCTURE TO IMPROVE
THE ACUPUNCTURE EFFECT IN CLINICAL PRACTICES
Bisong GUO
12 Church Lane, Gosforth, Newcastle-upon-Type NE3 1AR, U.K.
This paper is mainly concerned with the issue of
how to apply the method of easing the mind while substantiating
the abdomen (which takes in the respired air to Dantian) together
with acupuncture to improve the acupuncture effect in clinical practices.
As it is known to all, the medical system in the West is very different
from that in China. Although there are not many acupuncture practitioners
in the West, too many patients wait to be attended to. Therefore
it is almost impossible to maintain the common practice of everyday
or every-other-day treatment as it is the case in China. To solve
the problem, I have applied the method of easing the mind while
substantiating the abdomen together with acupuncture to successfully
achieve the same curative effect in clinical practices.
In the 2,000 cases I have dealt with, Qigong acupressure was applied
along the major meridians. followed by a deep breathing instruction
as well as needling until an abdominal gurgling sound occurred.
The patient was then put into a trance state. After 20 to 40 minutes,
the Qi was replenished and harmonized so that it could be applied
more to the body. After the first session the patient was advised
to practice this method before sleep at home and exercise abdominal
breathing during the day when it was convenient. This would help
people get more relaxed and obtain the balance of Yin and Yang in
the body. The majority of the patients found that they felt much
better after the healing, during the intervals and followed-up instructed
practice. This meant that less treatment was needed.
