ABSTRACT:
In voluntary weight loss is a well known complication of cancer
it eventually lead to cachexia, a state is characterized by low
body weight, fatique, lethargy, weakness and anaemia. Patophysiology
of cancer cachexia was that of a competition between host and growing
tumor for nutrients, amino acid in particular.
Factor and mechanism that are thought to play a major role are the
precense of an increased systemic inflamatory state, the circulation
of tumor derived proteolitic and lipolytic factor, an increased
cori cycle cell activity and decreased food intake.
Electrical stimulation in Zusanli (ST36), Taixi (KI3) and Hegu (LI4)
influences the activity of the endocrine glands through the direct
innervation, coordination and regulating of the glandular activity
is release of hypothalamic, pituitary and peripheral endocrine hormones
by thymus, adrenal glands decreasing plasma leptin, serotonin, corticotrophin
releasing factor and increasing apetite regulation, another effect
is normalize gastro intestinal mobility, increasing food absorbtion,
decreasing liver gluconeogenesis and peripheral prostaglandin.
In alternative cancer treatment clinic Surabaya during August 1999
to August 2000 has data: Five biggest malignancy (N=60), 55% late
stage.
Breast Cancer 16.6%
Gynaecology 15.0%
Lung 13.0%
Liver & GI 11.6%
Thyroid 10.0%
Other's 33.5%
The result is
4 times treatment for 70% patients ¡ª good reaction is naucea and
GI disturbance disappear.
8 times treatment for 40% patients ¡ª increasing body weight
Clinical research of the acupuncture to treat cancer cachexia is
advantages, safety and the same reaction as cancer pain relieve.

ABSTRACT:
There were many patients as drug users in Surabaya during the last
years. Being treated with the conventional medication such as detoxification
with Naloxone, etc. The author observed that acupuncture might play
a role in maintaining the treatment for a certain period of time
and also because it was cheaper. So we hoped that the relapse rate
could be reduced or decreased by this method.
The points used were:
1. Ear acupuncture: Heart and Lung points (E100, E101), Shenmen(MA
TF-1)
2. Body acupuncture: Hegu(LI4), Zusanli(ST36), Neiguan(P6), Shenmen(H7),
Baihui (GV20), Taichong(LR3), Fengchi(GB20)
Among 28 patients who had been treated with acupuncture since january
2000, 98% had shown good results.

TITLE: Electrical Voltage Profile as an Indicator Organ Disfunction
AUTHOR(S): Suhariningsih, PhD.Eng.
KEYWORDS: Acupuncture point, Electrical voltage profile, Liver disfunction
ABSTRACT:
An observational comparative study on volunteers was performed to
prove the relationship between liver acupuncture points and liver
disfunction, by measuring its electrical voltage using biophysical
methods.
Measurement of absolute electrical voltage on biologycal system
may not represent true cell activity, because cell do activities
in continuous process, so cell activity may change with time. Therefore
it is said that healthy or unhealthy can't be measured through absolute
value, because healthy or unhealthy is a process of changing activities.
In biophysics process is the time function, that's why the measurement
of electrical voltage absolute on acupuncture points is less exactly
because it doesn't show change cell activities, beside that absolute
evaluation depend strongly on individual and even for the same individu
is not constant. To know the change of acupoint activities it must
be measured electrical voltage profile as a function of time. The
voltage measurements were done every 2 second during 5 minutes,
data in form of electrical voltage profile obtained may better represent
cell activity.
Fast Fourier Transform was used in this study to analyze the signal
electrical voltage profile. The data were also analyzed by employing
Manova.
The result of this study on 42 healthy, 42 chronic hepatitis, and
hepatic cirrhosis volunteers showed that, the voltage as a function
of time on the left and right BL. 18 are acupuncture points can
be used to differenciate healthy people and patients suffering from
chronic hepatitis, and hepatic cirrhosis condition.

AUTHOR(S): Suhariningsih, PhD.Eng.
KEYWORDS: Acupuncture point, Electrical impedance, Electrode 2 mm
ABSTRACT:
Skin is not only the outer cover of the body but the most important
organ of the body, and skin impedance contains much information
(Yamamoto, 1994). Therefore the bioelectrical measurement through
acupoints is expected to be able to hand over information about
organ condition.
The research of skin impedance and its analyse on acupoint has been
done Suhariningsih (1997, 1998), by using LCRmeter, HP4284A, test
fixture HP1604LS by constant current method. The research result
shows that diameter electrode 1 mm and 2 mm can be developed its
function as an indicator of organ disfunction.
The purpose of the research is to prove that electrical body on
healthy person is difference with unhealthy person, that is by comparing
electrical impedance profile (diameter electrode 2 mm) on healthy
person and liver disfunction.
This research was carried out through measurement of electrical
impedance on acupuncture point of healthy person(42), chronic hepatitis(42),
and hepatic cirrhosis(31) by non invasive method. Measurement was
done every 2 second during 5 minute, so that the data in form of
electrical impedance profile was obtained.
The result of this study showed that electrical impedance can be
used to differenciate healthy person and liver disfunction.

TITLE: Treatment of Allergic Rhinitis with Laserpuncture in Children
AUTHOR(S): Eko Suyanto, MD., Pediatric.
KEYWORDS: Allergic Rhinitis, Laserpuncture
ABSTRACT:
Background
Despite rapid medical advances and the availability of new pharmaceutical
products, the incidence of allergic rhinitis is increasing exponentially
world wide, especially with industrialization, rural to urban drift,
population increase and change in life style.
Drug consumption is increasing and family and national costs are
escalating. These have a significant impact on patients, employee,
health care bodies and national economy. Allergic rhinitis also
causes very high missed workdays, missed school days and reduced
activity days. So far no intervention has been shown to be really
effective.
Method
The diagnosis of allergic rhinitis is made on clinical basis. From
1997 to 1999, 88 pediatric patients were fulfilled the criteria
of diagnosis and complete to study, consisted of 45 male and 43
female-ages were between 2 to 15 years.
Helium Neon Laser of 630 mm wave length, 5 m Watt was irradiated
through fiber optic to acupoints: Baihui (GV20), Yintang (Ext 1),
Yingxiang(LI20), Hegu(LI4) and Zusanli(St36). Each acupoint were
irridiated for one minute, twice a week and 14 sessions constituted
one course of treatment. During the treatment all medication were
suspended, but allergen controle was advised.
Result
After one course of treatment 81 patients, 41 male and 40 female,
were cured. The total effective rate was 81%. Sinus radiographic
examination were performed on 7 ineffective cases and the result
revealed sinusitis maxillaris in 2 patients, polypnasi in one and
4 patients were normal.
Conclusion
Laserpuncture is suitable for children because it is painless, while
its effectiveness is comparable with other modalities. Laserpuncture
can be a promissing alternative in treating children with allergic
rhinitis.

TITLE: Treatment of Mild to Moderate Broncheal Asthma with Laserpuncture
in Children
AUTHOR(S): Eko Suyanto, MD., Pediatric.
KEYWORDS: Bronchial Asthma, Laserpuncture
ABSTRACT:
Background
Asthma is a leading cause of chronic illness in childhood and is
the most frequent admitting diagnosis in children's hospital. Pharmacologyc
therapy is the mainstay of treatment of asthma. Status asthmatius
is a clinical condition indicated for ICU because of its severity
and death may happen.
Method
From 1997 to 1999, 34 cases (14 boys, 20 girls) with mild to moderate
asthma completed the study. Helium neon laser of 630 mm wavelength,
5m Watt was irradiated to acupoints: Tiantu(CV22), Shanzhong(CV17),
Dingchuan(ext 17), Feishu(BL13), Zusanli(St36).
Each acupoint were irradiated for one minute, three times a week
and 14 sessions constituted one course of treatment. Symptomatic
medications were only used when required and allergen controle was
advised.
Result
After one course of therapy, 33 patients showed much improvement.
No asthmatic attack occurred during the treatment, asthmatic wheezing
and moist rales dissappeared and the use symptomatic medications
decreased until zero.
Only one patient(girl, 12 years old) continued to have moderate
attack almost every day
Conclusion
Beside pharmacologic therapy, laserpuncture on certain acupoints
can be an ajunct or an alternative in treating mild to moderate
asthma in pediatric patients. Further follow up is needed to clearify
this finding.
