ABSTRACT:
Introduction: In ancient times, there were 2541 types of diseases being treatable by Solo-acupoint recorded in 14 medical classics like Nei Jing, Zhen Jiu Ya Yi Jing, Zhen Jiu Ge Fu etc from 770-476 B.C. until 1911. Today, 312 types of acute diseases, infectious diseases, internal and surgical medicine, pediatrics and gynecology, ear-nose-throat and miscellaneous disease, diagnostics, acupuncture anesthesia, clinical studies treated by Solo-acupoint have been reported. There are 1700 publications on treatment using Solo-acupoint. Therefore, the use of Solo-acupoint by physicians has been continuous. The term Ahshi (means ouch), was first coined by the famous physician Sun Si Miao in his medical classics Qian Jin Yao Fang during the Tang Dynasty (618¡­907). This paper aims to introduce the combine use of Solo-acupoint with the Ahshi method. The treatment is became known as 'one sided Solo-acupoint Ahshi therapy on the second metacarpal bone radial side micro-acupuncture (OS.AT)'.

METHODS & RESULTS: In the following are academic presentations on OS.AT since 1990. Papers presented in Paris (1990) and Kyoto (1993) at the 2nd and 3rd World Conferences on Acupuncture of the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies (WFAS) showed that a pressure meter could replace locating of the tenderest acupoint by the thumb press. And the viscera related acupoints (totally 6 of them) was more important than the body-parts acupoints (also totally 6 of them) in diagnosis and therapy. These 12 acupoints are located at the radial side of the second metacarpal bone.
The master thesis clinical use of the second metacarpal bone radial side micro-acupuncture system of diagnostic and therapeutic method at Beijing University of TCM in 1995 was also presented at the 4th World Conference on Acupuncture of the WFAS at New York, U.S.A. in 1996. It showed that the rates of curative effect, the most effective, effective, non-effective and total effectiveness of OS.AT were 20%, 33.3%, 40%, 6.7% and 93.3% respectively.
The OS.AT is effective for smoking cessation was shown in the paper tentative research on giving up smoking with micro-acupuncture on the radial part of second metacarpal bone presented at the academic conference of the 10th Anniversary of WFAS at Beijing, China in 1997. The Zang-fu (viscera) acupoints gave better cigarette reduction rate (85.7%) than the Lung acupoint (66.7%).
In 1999, the paper clinical observation on regulative effect on human 12 meridians by acupuncturing single point of the series of points on radial side of the second metacarpal bone in 60 cases was presented at the Singapore 1 Conference on Acupuncture-Moxibustion and Tuina. It showed that OS.AT obviously regulated the unbalanced meridians after treatment in 60 cases of 19 types of diseases. This objective improvement was tested by the COWT's computer software system on the test of V-A electrical property of human meridians at the 12 source points.

DISCUSSION: Besides showing the locating of the key single Ahshi Solo-acupoint (the tenderest point) of OS.AT and it's therapeutic effect. And an equation "E=f(TRAMPS)" is used in an attempt to illustrate the relationship between the effect and time of acupuncture stimulation, response at the acupuncture side, acupoint use, manipulation, the physician's diagnosis and sincerity.

CONCLUSION: The OS.AT is effective in practice. All the indications of acupuncture-moxibustion are also the indications of OS.AT. Since this single point acupuncture therapy is simple, easy to use, very effective, saving time and well accepted by male and female infant and the aged, it is worth of populating.
