TITLE: PEDIATRIC PRURITUS
AUTHOR(S):
ABSTRACT:
Pediatric pruritus may by present at birth or may by developed after
birth. The affected areamay be localized or all over the body. In
most of the cases special treatment is not necessary because of
spontaneous reemission as a child grows up. However, some cases
become chronic. The symptoms are unbearably itchy so that a child
scratches until bleeding. The repeated scratching and bleeding causes
hardening of the affected area. Pediatric pruritus has a close relationship
with birth heat and it can be aggravated by exogenous pathogenic
factors. Other aggravating factors are emotional stress, temperature
and weather change friction from clothes or improper diet. Pruritus
can cause a child to have difficulty with concentration, low self
esteem about appearance, and can affect harmony of the Zang Fu system.

TITLE: Treatment of 401 Cases of Patients with Lower Back Pain by
Acupuncture
AUTHOR(S): Shi-Hua Wu, Jun Wu, Yunli Ni, Yan A. Su, Xingweng Wang
ABSTRACT:
Lower back pain is common in adults with the physical work. It is
the clinical syndrome rather than a single disease. Here, we report
the treatment of 401 cases of patients with lower back pain by acupuncture.
These patients were those treated in our clinics in the last ten
years. They include 220 (54.9%) male and 181(45.1%) female. Some
patients had the pain for only 3 days and others had the syndrome
for as long as 20 years, before coming to the clinics. The patient's
ages varied from 18 to 82 years old. 330(82.3%) patients were from
30 to 59, which was the highest incidence in the ages. 241(60.1%)
cases showed lower back pain only. 80(20%) patients had the pain
accompanied with the right sciatica, 69(17.2%) with the left sciatica,
and 11(2.7%) with the intervertebral discs problem. All patients
described their pain clearly, pointed the precise sites of pain
and radiating pain of the lower back and legs. Acute patients displayed
stiff and spastic pain; whereas chronic pain seemed to be derived
from the local muscle atrophy. Pain was enhanced by bowing and picking
up a thing on floor or by raising the legs. X-ray or MRI revealed
abnormal changes in vertebra and intervertebral discs. The patients
were treated with the Traditional Chinese Medicine. Major acupuncture
points include B23, B54, B36, B37, B40, B57, B60, G30, GV3, GV4,
GV5, Huanzhong, Yaojiaji point, and Ashi point. Zhou-Lin Biological
Apparatus was used to heat the pain area. The Chinese herbal medicine
used were modified Duhuojishen Tang. After 1-3 terms of the treatment,
241960.1%) patients were cured. The symptoms of 101(25.2%) cases
were significantly reduced. Pain of 48(12%) patients was lessened.
11(2.7%) patients did not respond to the treatment. Together, 390(97.3%)
patients had satisfying response to the treatment. We believe that
lower back pain is bone and/or muscle degenerate disease. According
to the Traditional Chinese Medicine, it is categorized in Pi-Zheng
and is due to blockage of Qi-Xue circulation by Wind, Cold, and
Wet. Acupuncture is able to regulate body function and reduce pain.
The heating from Zhou-Lin Biological Apparatus improves circulation.
The modified Duhuojishen Tang enhances Qi-Xue circulation, eliminates
infection, and reduces pain. All together the treatment gave the
satisfying results.

TITLE: Endometriosis Treated with Electroacupuncture and Herbs
AUTHOR(S): Naikwang Luke Chang
ABSTRACT:
Endometriosis is a disease in which the uterine lining grows outside
the uterine cavity. The endometrial tissue usually adheres to the
organs in the pelvis. The main symptoms are pain and bleeding. The
pain is felt where the site of endometrial tissue is misplaced.
Bleeding may be internal as well as bleeding from the vagina or
other orifices such as the nose. If the menstruating women between
the ages of 25 and 44 occur the recurrent abnormal bleeding at specific
times of the month should lead people highly to suspect this disease.
In the U.S. over 5 million women afflicted with disease. Until now
the causes of this problem are unknown.
In patients suffering from endometriosis, they often occur with
a constitutional deficiency of yin and excess of yang. The clinical
observation shows that the liver, spleen and heart are mostly affected.
The liver function in string the blood is disturbed. The Flush Vessel
Meridian and the Conception Vessel Meridian became malfunction.
The spleen falls to control the blood. It also fails to produce
Qi. According to the manifestations of the tongue, we evaluated
the general condition and applied treatment based on differentiation
of syndrome. Excessive heat or Qi deficiency was appeared in the
different stage.
In Excessive heat, acupuncture points were used: Baihui (DU20),
Ququan(LR 8), Shenmai(B62), Shenmen(H7), Xuehai(SP10), Yinbai(SP1),
Zhongji(RN3), Zhaohai(K6). To treat Qi deficiency, the points we
used: Baihui(DU20), Guanyuan(RN4), Sanyinjiao(SP6), Yangchi(SJ14),
Yinbai(SP1), Zusanli(ST36). Occasionally we treated with Auricular
Points: Ear-Shenmen, Ovary and Uterus.
In Excessive heat the herbs were used: Radix Gentianae 12 gm: Fructus
Gardeniae 9gm; Radix Scutellariae 9 gm: Radix Bupleuri 6 gm: Radix
Rehmanniae 15 gm: Herba Plantaginis 9 gm: Rhizoma Alismatis 12 gm:
Radix Glycyrrhizae 3 gm: Rhizoma Corydalls 15 gm: Flos Lonicerae
15 gm. If the patients showed Qi deficiency, we changed the prescription:
Radix Angelicae Sinensis 15 gm: Rhizoma Chuanxiong 10 gm: Radix
Paeoniae Alba 12 gm: Radix Dipsaci 12 gm: Semen Cuscutae 12 gm:
Cortex Eucommiae 10 gm: Colla Corii Asini 10 gm: Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae
15 gm; Rhizoma Cyperi 12 gm.
In Chinese holistic therapy, with electroacupuncture and herbs,
the result has been proved successfully by our clinic practice.
